Yuletide Letter 2019
Nov. 2nd, 2019 09:23 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Hi, author! Thank you for writing for me. This letter isn't super meaty and I'm a bit worried that it's not too coherent either (I got a little excited), but I hope it helps you out, and note that my likes act as prompts. If any of them catch your eye please write about them. (And also if any of my likes or prompts make you balk, just know I'm definitely not expecting any of those.)
My DW is 99% letters, so if you feel like browsing through any of them and cribbing prompts from them for the fandoms I requested, that's great. (But obviously I super do not even expect you to look at my other letters.) I am totally happy with whatever you want to write as long as it hits literally any of my likes and avoids my DNWs. I really, really like these character combinations and will be happy with anything.
Please know that even though there are relatively scarce details for the fandoms I request in this letter, that doesn't mean I lack interest in reading about them, and if you interpret things differently than me, don't worry about it.
Also, The Good Place is ongoing, but I am keeping up. Go for any season.
NARRATIVE LIKES
- Hurt/comfort. I am a big fan of the comfort, but the hurt can be dark as you want.
- Friendship
- Protectiveness, overprotectiveness, and having to let go of overprotectiveness because it's not helpful to the protected person.
- Complicated relationships
- Caretaking (up to and including taking care of a character who can't take care of themselves) and caretaker fatigue
- Give and take/mutual support between characters, even if one is pretty messed up
- Mental health issues
- Sanity slippage/full mental breakdown
- Recovery
- Trauma (over anything, as dark as you want--past abuse, non-con, torture, etc.)
- Memory issues (up to and including dementia)
- Eating disorders
- Self-harm
- Loved ones supporting each other through anything even if they're not sure how or if they mess up a bunch
- Delusions and hallucinations, especially delusions
DNWs
- Smut/PWP/fic that is rated E because of sexual content/porn
- Broken bones. (Ribs are fine.)
- Character bashing. (Nothing that could be classed as "X character unfriendly".)
- Ship bashing or kink bashing.
- Unrequested shipfic. (It's fine to mention canon relationships and/or romantic entanglements, and to have romantic relationships in the background.)
- Genderswap/always-another-gender/suddenly-another-gender
- Gender headcanons, including pronoun changes.
- Characters soapboxing about social justice issues.
- Strong focus on the sexuality of any character.
- Autistic headcanons.
- Pregnancy/oviposition/things growing inside of people.
- Kids who are not canon characters.
- Characters betraying each other.
- Bestiality
- Public humiliation
- Seasonal fic
- Unrequested setting-change AUs (sorry, I originally forgot to put "unrequested" and said I was fine with it for TGP, which I am!)
- First person
- Furries
- Guro (gore is fine, just pull back if you get to Cannibal Holocaust levels)
I ENTHUSIASTICALLY OPT IN TO:
Anything not in my DNWs. Anything. Am I serious? Yeah.
FANDOMS
THE GOOD PLACE
Jason Mendoza, Michael (The Good Place)
I like all of the canon relationships, so any of them are fine to include. Also, I REALLY love Jason/Janet. I think their relationship is really sweet and supportive, and I enjoy them. I also like Janet & Michael's friendship a lot.
I'm really into Jason and Michael's relationship, and season four has reminded me of that. Jason clearly looks up to Michael and likes and trusts him (Michael's a ten! He's only not an eight because he was torturing them!), and Michael gives off such Exasperated Dad Vibes with Jason. It delights me. I also think that Michael definitely has an overprotective (and vaguely condescending) streak towards Jason that I think is really interesting, what with leaving him out of the loop or underexplaining things and going "it's okay" instead. So I think that's interesting to look at too--how Michael's a demon and has a lot of power and knowledge so obviously the way he relates to someone who's...easily confused, to say the least, is going to be a bit conflicted. But I mostly think that the relationship's really sweet, and Michael is demonically doing his best, and so is Jason.
Also, set this in any season, or in some future where they're in the Real Good Place, or some random divergence from canon, or a mundane human AU. Whatever.
I love the rest of Team Cockroach, so including them in significant ways is totally fine and even encouraged.
Prompts:
- Any scenarios you pull out of my likes.
- Michael taking care of a de-aged Jason.
- Jason dealing with Earth Trauma (for example, his entire childhood) and Michael being supportive. Michael being Jason's confidant and the guy he goes to for advice and Michael not wanting to let him down. Some problems can't be solved with a lollipop in the shape of a Transformer.
- The tables turning. Michael gets hurt (maybe the Bad Place gets to him and it takes a while to rescue him?) and Jason helps him. (Or is generally protective.)
- Both Jason and Michael getting kidnapped/caught by the Bad Place and tortured. (Also rescue and recovery is good.)
- Michael being protective. Jason secretly or not-so-secretly thinks Michael's a better dad than Donkey Doug. (Michael definitely thinks Michael's a better dad than Donkey Doug.)
- The changes in the way Michael relates to Jason from one season to another--from sneering impatience to sincere fondness and wanting to help him and feeling for him.
WHITECHAPEL
Joseph Chandler, Ray Miles
I love the relationship between these two so much. Joe's the boss, but Miles is his confidant and support. They work really well together, Odd Couple that they are.
Prompts:
- Still my likes.
- Joe being part of the Miles family. Trying to keep his mental health issues away from the kids because they look up to him and he feels ashamed.
- Joe's mental health deteriorating and Miles stepping in.
- Miles getting ill and Joe helping support him and his family through it. (Or, if you want to make it super extra double sad, to the end.)
RUSSIAN DOLL
Alan Zaveri, Nadia Vulvokov
I love this show! I love the relationship between Nadia and Alan! I feel like there's protectiveness and sweetness and that they genuinely like each other and also I am so down for mommy issues and mental health issues and friendship, so this show was amazing for me. I don't really ship it, but I wouldn't mind a relationship that's so intense it's ambiguous whether it's romantic or not. Basically, I'd just rather there isn't sexual tension and they don't make out or declare feelings for each other on-screen. I just really loved their friendship. Like the part where Nadia tells drunk!Alan a bedtime story? Awww. And the way that they really, genuinely care about each other by the end of the show did me in.
I would really like post-canon fic for this show, once the time loop is over, but fic during the time loops where they further connect would be great too.
(I also really liked the supporting characters, Ruth and Farran especially, so do with that what you will.)
Prompts:
- Still my likes.
- Post-canon where the loops didn't merge back together at the end, so there's a universe where Alan saves Nadia but Nadia doesn't remember. How do they interact after that?
- Post-canon where the loops didn't merge back together at the end, but this time it's the universe where Nadia saved Alan but Alan doesn't remember her.
- I thought that the parallels between Nadia's mom and Alan were really interesting, so anything with that and maybe Nadia having complicated feelings about her friendship with Alan when he hits a rough patch?
- Post-Time Loop trauma. The two of them trying to support each other.
- Nadia outright mentions that she has/had some kind of eating disorder. Alan binges on cake and compulsively exercises. Fic where one or the other has an eating disorder exacerbated by the trauma of the loop?
